Individual defence briefs
German criminal law is (still) geared towards the personal accountability of individuals. The defence of individuals is therefore one of the focus areas of our law practice. This means that we are steadfastly committed to safeguarding and asserting the rights of our clients vis-à-vis the investigating authorities. Criminal investigations by the prosecution are in-credibly stressful for anyone under suspicion. Our aim is therefore to bring the proceedings to an end as quickly as possible before charges are brought, with as little publicity as possible. However, should investigations nevertheless result in a trial, our many years of trial experience enable us to defend our clients in a targeted and effective manner.
Corporate Representation

Searches of company premises (dawn raids) by the prosecution, the police, antitrust authorities or tax investigators are by no means unusual. Investigating authorities search business premises and production sites alike, seize documents and electronic data.

Apart from these sometimes considerable disruptions, companies are also exposed to further risks, particularly if assets are to be disgorged and monetary fines are being threatened.

We advise and represent a wide variety of corporate clients under these circumstances. We also take on the coordination of complex large-scale proceedings when a great number of employees or even the entire business practice of a company have come under the prosecuting authorities’ scrutiny.

Compliance
Our compliance advisory services have steadily grown in importance over the past decade. The demands on risk prevention have risen enormously, a trend that is set to continue. We have many years of experience in the area of preventive advice in the field of criminal law – dating back to a time when “compliance” was not yet an established term denoting a specific legal meaning. Moreover, we advise many large corporations and medium-size companies in the preparation and implementation of customised compliance programmes as well as conducting training sessions for their staff. In addition, we assist corporate clients in the performance of internal investigations.
